The Mississippi Legislature is on the verge of finally passing an expungement law. An expungement law is a law that allows a person to have his criminal past, his criminal record, removed from court files, from the FBI records, from the local police records, and from most other public records. Expungement is a good thing. I have been working with members of the Legislature for four (4) years trying to pass an expungement law. Each year for the past four (4) years the bill has not been able to pass out of the Legislature. It is going to be close this year. The Legislature has made many changes to the law, and I don’t like the changes, but I will be happy to see any Expungement Bill pass. Keep your fingers crossed.
